The San Juan Waterfront is in the midst of a stunning transformation. Located along the southern portion of Old San Juan, 21 blocks of obsolete piers and abandoned industrial facilities along the San Antonio Canal will give way to a vibrant, 5.8-million-square-foot urban waterfront destination. The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, through the Ports Authority, has embarked on this plan to enhance the economic capabilities of Puerto Rico, and selected Colliers International to lead the engineering, design and regulatory process with a team of international consultants.
"Encompassing over 97 acres of land adjacent to the San Antonio Canal, the new San Juan Waterfront will enliven the area and improve the quality of life of all who live, work and visit the Isleta."
The master plan for the San Juan Waterfront calls for:
- Approximately 1,530 new residential units
- Over 500,000 square feet of retail space
- A Boutique Hotel District comprising 940 keys
- 31 acres of public parks, including the Parque de la Bahia, the Paseo de Puerto, and Cross Island Parks East and West
- A state-of-the-art marina that will berth 96 mega yachts
- Improved public transportation, including water taxi service and increased bus routes
Due to its size, location and mix of uses, the San Juan Waterfront has the power to transform the entire Isleta, improving connections between people and places. Two Cross Island Parks will, for the first time, provide direct north-south pedestrian connections from the Atlantic Ocean to the San Antonio Canal. Improvements to the roads, increased public transportation opportunities, and extensive sidewalks and bicycle lanes will connect the west and east ends of the Isleta, as well as the Isleta itself to Greater San Juan. Most importantly, the San Juan Waterfront will reconnect the people of San Juan with over 2 miles of public waterfront.
Our community outreach program has begun with our "Kids Building San Juan Waterfront" program. Combining classroom instruction with field lessons, the program has a group of 6th and 8th grade students at a local San Juan middle school following the development and construction of the San Juan Waterfront. Among its many benefits, the program gives participants a sense of ownership in the new community and introduces students to professions that may otherwise be unknown to them.
Phase I construction is underway, beginning with the development of the marina, the first hotel, and Pier 6, which includes 1,000 linear feet of public park and a promenade that links new San Juan with Old San Juan.
